MOUNT AIRY CASINO
CI: Tell us about the table game approval…
That’s was very recent, wasn’t it?
GT: On April 7th we were granted permission to put in, initially, 68 table games – Blackjack, Craps, Roulette, Carnival games and an Asian gaming pit. We expect to attract a large Asian gaming population out of New York.
CI: Did the building already have space for
these, was it always part of the plan or have you had to reshuffle internally to accommodate the new tables?
GT: We had to rearrange the casino floor and open up a couple of spots that had been restaurants, changing them into gaming areas. You see, we have 2,500 slots on the floor along with the 68 tables. It’s not really a problem to lose the restaurants because the casino floor produces 85 per cent of our revenue. The other 15 per cent is a mixture of the amenities on the property – golf, restaurants, hotel, spa.
CI: What sort of impression has having the golf
facility had on the business?
GT: I think it makes a great impression because we find our customers will come here and enjoy playing a little golf, come inside and then – now – they can enjoy table games. A lot of the table game players are golfers, we’re sure. We have tournaments for players, we use the course
to create a lot of fun for guests.
CI: What’s your background – where were you
before Mount Airy?
GT: I was in Atlantic City for 15 years with Sands. I
was President of the Sands in AC from 2003 through 2006, and I had been on the property for a long time before that serving as Vice President of Operations.
CI: What impact has Pennsylvania had on Atlantic City, do you think? After all, you’ve seen both sides of the equation.
