7.0 HEALTH AND SAFETY REQUIREMENTS

7.1 All applicants must take and pass an independent assessment of retained health and safety knowledge. The assessment is designed to examine the knowledge of the individual across a wide range of health and safety topics.

7.2 Currently the only health and safety assessment which meets CSCS’ health and safety requirements is the ConstructionSkills Health and Safety Test. These requirements are available at www.cscs.uk.com/healthandsafety.

7.3 The ConstructionSkills Health and Safety Test is available at three levels: operative, supervisory and managerial and professional (MAP).

There are also specialist tests, designed for those working in the following occupational areas: Working at Heights, Lift and Escalator Industry and Highways.

7.4 Applications for the relevant card must be made within two years of meeting the CSCS health and safety requirements.

7.5 CSCS has a mutual recognition agreement with FÁS (Eire) Safepass, which acts as an exemption to the CSCS health and safety requirement.

8.0 SKILLED CARD – THE NVQ OR SVQ ROUTE

8.1 This route is for achievers of an NVQ or SVQ Level 1, 2 or 3, whose occupation is covered by CSCS and who have met current CSCS health and safety requirements. If the applicant has achieved a construction related NVQ or SVQ within two years of making the application, they will not be required to take the health and safety test on initial application.

N.B. CSCS will also accept the relevant equivalent QCF (Qualification and Credit Framework) qualification, providing it has NVQ in its title.

8.2 Cards available by this route are: Green Card Basic Level Blue Card Craft Level

NVQ or SVQ Level 1 NVQ or SVQ Level 2

Gold Card Advanced Craft Level NVQ or SVQ Level 3 8.3 These cards are valid for five years.

8.4 The cards are renewable upon application, providing CSCS health and safety requirements are met.
