Knauf plaster
sprays fine finish on uni’s walls
W
orking against the clock, the team from County Decorating Contractors is spraying precast concrete walls and ceilings at the rate
of 1,500m2 a week with Knauf Airless Readymix Plaster in preparation for final decoration. The University of Essex is procuring 561 new rooms in a new landmark building for students at its third and newest campus, in the Southend town centre. Hollybrook Project Manager Jim McKenna says Knauf Airless is producing a
fantastic finish in Southend. “County Decorating’s investment in the spray machine is paying off well,” he says. “They are making very good progress and are well within the time originally allocated for preparing the concrete panels – this means the units are ready for other trades more quickly, which helps our build programme significantly.” The key benefit of the Readymix products is their speed, as shown at
Southend. The fast-drying finishes are ready for painting just 24-48 hours after application, making them ideal for large, fast track developments, such as housing, hotels and schools. They are also ideal for refurbishment projects and can be applied directly to old painted, papered, plastered or plasterboard walls and ceilings.

Dorgard is top performer in schools
An increasing number of schools and colleges are choosing to install Dorgard wireless fire door retainers, because they offer the simplest, most cost- effective way of legally holding open often heavy and cumbersome fire doors safely in any position, automatically releasing them should the fire alarm sound. Dorgard is an excellent solution as it can be fitted in minutes with no
wiring required, offering significant cost advantages and avoiding any disruption of the premises. With over 300,000 Dorgards installed across the UK, the Dorgard range is
recognised as the accepted solution to the illegally wedged open fire door problem in any environment, complying fully with all relevant British Standards and EU Directives.
Tormaxmakes the grade
R
oyal Holloway, University of London, contracted TORMAX™ to
manufacture and install over twenty automatic entrances to new buildings, as well as to retro-fit existing doors with appropriate automatic operators. iMotion® technology combines a high torque synchronous motor with sophisticated sensors and a ground-breaking control system that minimises energy consumption whilst cutting heat lost from the building by precisely matching door opening speed with pedestrian flow. Actively encouraging less-able
bodied students, Royal Holloway has gone beyond the requirements of current DDA legislation, giving students a remote controlled key ring with which to operate the doors. In addition to providing automatic
door access to key teaching buildings around the campus, the Student Union now welcomes all members thanks to a pair of TORMAX iMotion® 1301 operators automating the main swing doors at the entrance. Delivering precise functionality through simple keypad programming, iMotion® 1301 swing door operators can be utilised in a wide range of internal or external locations, even those with high foot traffic levels. In the event of power failure, swing doors can simply be manually pushed open for rapid evacuation.
