Pupils plug into revision playlists on MP3 players
P
olam Hall School pupils are taking advantage of an innovative revision tool using MP3 players, thanks to a North East university student.
Hélène Bonsall, from Durham University, who has developed ‘Project Biocast’ to help pupils prepare for their biology exams. Year 10 GCSE students and Year 12 A-Level students have been creating
their own audio recordings, including presentations and key features about bio molecules, food and diet, DNA and hormones and the nervous system. The students then have the opportunity to download these podcasts onto
their iPods and MP3 players. The podcasts are about 4 to 5 minutes in length and provide students with an effective audio revision tool. Hélène said: “I thought it was quite an inventive idea to mix modern
technology, which every young person likes using, with practical revision techniques. I hope the playlists can now be used as a dynamic aid to help them revise for their upcoming exams”

Dancing with a difference at Warrington night club

ore than 150 teenagers took part in ‘Wii to Real’ event at a Warrington night club, organised by Warrington School
Sports Partnership to engage 12-16 year olds in innovative and exciting activities. Youths from seven high schools and community groups enjoyed interactive activities including ZigZag’s unique five- step dance mats featuring chart songs by JLS, Black Eyed Peas and Lady Ga Ga and ZigZag’s reactive Sportwall. Pupils also played on Wii consoles before experiencing the activities for real with coaches from local sports clubs. Dave Quartermain, Event and Competition Manager said: “Our SSP was spurred into action by the ongoing rise in obesity and a growing concern of anti social behaviour. Wii 2 Real was designed to inspire and encourage young people off the streets and to get active. “We mixed ZigZag’s dance mats and the Wii’s with activities like dance, rowing and boxing to give young people a taste of what’s on offer. Youngsters have already signed up to take part in activities in their local communities as a result.”
