unsuspecting public during the 2008 presidential campaign as the fiance of then-pregnant Bristol Palin, was seen around Los Angeles onMonday in an RV that had been gussied up to have “a party-bus kind of feel to it,” Krasnow says. The aspiring reality TV star and his party-mobile were making stops at various cable networks’ offices to pitch a series that Krasnow hopes will be around eight episodes — just like Palin’s. Monday afternoon, the
Johnston party wagon was parked outside MTV Networks’ offices in Santa Monica. Krasnow, whose credits include “The Weakest Link,” would not confirm what other, non-MTV, networks were being pitched, other than to say they were all networks that target “younger-skewing networks” — networks that attract “the type [of viewer] that would not watch TLC or Discovery.” Exact details of Levi’s show were being kept deliberately vague, so the project could be tailor-made to suit the purchasing network. Mothership MTV network, for instance, might want to focus more on Levi’s first time on the dating scene in Alaska since
breaking up with Bristol, whereas MTV’s Spike network might want them to focus on what Krasnow called “the adrenaline activities he has in Alaska with his buddies.” Hey, if it goes to CW, maybe
we’ll see Levi nekkid on a bearskin rug. And he’ll be really buff. Oh, and a vampire. “Levi Johnston’s Final
Frontier” was not mounted in reaction to Palin’s show, Krasnow insisted, saying it was in the works before the former governor began shopping her program to the networks with executive producer Mark Burnett. “He’s a 19-year-old kid living a
life like nobody else’s on the planet and in the culture of Alaska — that interested us. When Sarah Palin made her announcement, we rushed and decided to go out quicker. In a competitive marketplace, it made sense, if Sarah Palin is going to try to own Alaska,” Krasnow snarked. “She may try to tell us how beautiful an iceberg is. . . . His version might include skinning a bear.” That said, Krasnow said he’s
going to do a show “that’s authentic and real — it’s not trying to just be some anti-Sarah

Teenager,” a series focused on teen pregnancy. That episode will air either in late June or early July, an ABC Family rep told the TV Column, but there is no plan for Father Levi to appear. Levi looked the model future son-in-law when he was first introduced to the country at the Republican National Convention after Palin’s campaign confirmed that Bristol, then 17, was five months pregnant with his child. This continued until about two months after their son Tripp’s

Can Usher measure up to the mentorship bar Miley Cyrus set? The R&B star appears on “American Idol” (Fox at 8) as the contestants perform soul tunes on performance night. Speaking of Michael, the evil doctor has plans to blackmail med student Lauren after he finds out she’s been moonlighting as a call girl to pay for school. After seemingly everyone on
the Internet called last week’s episode of “Lost” (ABC at 9) the Best Episode Ever, this one has a lot to live up to, as separated husband and wife Jin and Sun continue to frantically look for each other.
“Frontline: The Quake” (WETA

birth in December 2008. Then, one day, there was a loud pop and the air was full of mangled fragments of Levi’s engagement to Bristol. Few things in the world are more painful than the realization that an estrangement has occurred between a former future son-in-law and his ex-future mother-in-law. In December, Johnston asked
that the custody case between himself and Bristol over baby Tripp be conducted in public to protect him from Sarah Palin, who he said was “powerful, politically ambitious and has a reputation for being extremely vindictive.” Palin went on “Oprah” and
spoke about Levi’s “aspiring porn” career (he did shoots for Playgirl and GQ), saying, “I believe he goes by the name Ricky Hollywood now,” and adding that she prays for him. What a coincidence — so did we! And now it appears our prayers have been answered.
Kind words follow letter about job loss
ASK AMY
A few weeks back, “Concerned Wife” wrote a very thoughtful letter to me about her husband’s impending job loss. In addition to professional challenges he would be facing, he also felt that he was letting his family down. Concerned asked how she could best help her husband through this rough time. A flood of mail came in from readers responding to this letter. I found them inspirational as well as helpful and am sampling them below.
Dear Amy: Even though I am over 60 and am lucky to have just found a job, I have gone through four job changes in the past six years. My wife was very supportive. My advice for the husband:
When you lost your job, you actually “got” two jobs. No. 1 is finding a new job, and No. 2 is
using your “spare” time to contribute to your family in non-monetary ways. Ask your wife and kids to put
requests on a honey-do list, and do them.
Do house cleaning, pick up the
dry cleaning, do the laundry and anything else you can think of to pitch in. Have dinner prepared, so when
your wife comes home from work on Friday all she has to do is take off her shoes, have a glass of wine and anticipate a wonderful errand- and housework-free weekend with
her hubby and kids.
Been There, Done That
Dear Amy: I liken these job losses to a
difficult divorce. The “marriage” with the company may not have been a great one, but, as we know, that doesn’t mean people want to
Dear Amy:
Please pass along my message to this couple to stay optimistic.
be divorced.
This loss causes a person to question his judgment, priorities, ideals and loyalty to his very core —this while feeling betrayed and being treated by the culture as if he is a failure. It’s hard to find inspiration. I dearly wish I had not committed so much time, seriousness, loyalty or energy to my corporate career. I wish I had spent more time on things that mattered to me: faith, family and heart.
Our family went to a single
paycheck and a better life. We can’t spend money the way we used to, but that has been less painful than we expected.
Janet
Over my 38-year career, I have had to change jobs six times due to an unwarranted termination, a company bankruptcy, three acquisitions and one layoff. I have been able to bounce back
every time, often into better jobs than I had before. I realize things may be tougher than ever today. I’d like to offer this man some brotherly support.
David
Dear Amy: Having experienced the layoff process from both sides of the table, I believe the most important thing to realize is your career will not be the same whether or not you leave the company. Whatever happens, this wife should help her husband mourn the loss like the death of a close friend. He’ll be grieving for a loss of identity. We all identify with
what we do. At this time it’s critical for us to
know who we are. Family and friends will definitely help this husband remind himself it’s who he is, not what he does, that is most important.
RIF Veteran
Dear Amy: My father was let go from his job
after 25 years shortly before I was married, and my husband was laid off four months after our wedding. Before these events I could
never imagine my dad not working. I didn’t imagine being a newlywed with an unemployed husband. Both turned into amazing opportunities.
My husband and his former
co-workers started their own business, and while it was a bit scary at first, their company is doing well and he is happier than
ever at work. Due to my parents’ own tight
budgeting, my dad is semi-retired until the right thing comes along. Since he has been home, my relationship with him has never been better. The time we spend now is a gift that is as important as all the hard work he dedicated to my family when I was young. I hope “Concerned Wife’s” family enjoys this gift of time as much as my family has.
Happy Wife and Daughter
Job loss is extremely stressful, but sometimes such a loss can lead to unexpected benefits. Thank you all.
