New Autumn Bulb Collection launched to the Trade
U
nwins have taken a fresh approach to Autumn planting bulbs this year, by Maximising Retail Potential In Loose Bulbs
totally redesigning their range and packaging. Launching to the trade in
February and March, Unwins are appealing to all levels of gardener with
their brand new segmented bulb range designed to make life easier when
choosing which bulbs to buy and where and how to plant them.
Did you know that :
• “Over 39% of bulb sales are on impulse”
• “17% of consumers prefer to buy loose”
• “Over 70% of consumers buy pre-packaged bulbs ”
• “52% of consumers buy bulbs for use solely in containers”
(Source: The Thinking Shop)
These figures show interesting opportunities in the market for sales growth.
Trends indicate that Speciality remains a key part of bulb sales accounting for over
26% of pre-packaged sales, with daffodils remaining a favourite with 43% share
of total bulb sales. The demand for Miniature Daffodils is growing, overtaking Tall
Daffodils in pre-packaged sales, partly attributed to an increasing interest in
container gardening where outdoor space for consumers is at a premium.
Unwins have recognised these trends and created their range and packaging with
the needs of the consumer at the very heart of it. With new look packaging that
helps the buyer to decide how and where to plant in a clear step by step format,
plus aftercare guidance and website support, this range is rich with consumer
friendly language that makes the process of choosing and planting bulbs easier,
thus giving a far better success rate for the gardener.
In addition to this, Unwins have launched an impressive range of loose bulbs and
Widening Consumer Appeal nets, many of which are Cornish grown, appealing to consumers who like to
support local growers. All loose bulbs are available with a planting information
note per variety, to ensure less experienced gardeners have the guidance they
may need throughout the growing process to achieve success.
Garden News Editor Clare Foggett comments “A sneak preview of Unwins' new
Autumn bulb ranges was all I needed to know that their spring-flowering bulbs
will go down a storm with gardeners. From Cornish-grown daffodils and the
Perfect Match range that makes superb bulb displays child's play, to the Must
Haves (customers will drool over mouth-watering tulip 'Ice Cream') and
Showpiece bulbs, there's something to tempt everyone. Not only that, the packs
offer great value for money and the simple planting guides on the back also
show gardeners that a stunning bulb display is easy to achieve.”
Westland National Sales Manager Ken Evans said “we are currently presenting
our superb new bulb range to our key retailers across the UK and have met with
much enthusiasm. With our impressive new range that delivers on price, range,
packaging design and consumer education, there is a huge opportunity for
