firmly behind us and the
teenies to come - although
there is still speculation as
to what we should actually
be calling the new decade -
the question remains how
attitudes may change over this period to the prickly
issue of home ownership.
Some commentators, 'experts' and
economists have hinted that the current
economic conditions may force a radical shift
in the perception of Brits and their attitudes
to property. It has also been suggested that
the Brits thirst for home ownership is on the
wane due to a mixture of lifestyle choices and
affordability issues.
These arguments make for an intriguing
scenario but what is abundantly clear is that
in order to get a foot on the housing ladder
people require a larger deposit than ever
before. But with belts having to be tightened
amidst growing unemployment figures it's
difficult to see where the necessary deposit
will come from, especially in the higher
average house price areas, unless prospective
purchasers have a generous family member or
two.
