ANNUAL LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE RETURNS T
DUKE HEADLINES
O DUKE
Coach K shifted gears quickly after Countdown to Craziness,
transitioning from leading in times of hilarity to leading in times of
uncertainly. After a weekend of smiles, entertainment and outrageous
performances on and off the court at CTC, the eighth annual Fuqua/
Coach K Leadership Conference took place October 21st-23rd with
this year’s theme, “Leading in Times of Uncertainty.”
The conference, held at Duke’s Fuqua School of Business, covered
topics such as leading through the financial crisis, competing as a
21st century enterprise among 20th century giants, leveraging the
social network, leading through organized chaos and more. Speak-
ers at the conference included talented and successful leaders such
as Michael Capps (President, EPIC Games), Illieva Ageenko (Senior
VP, eCommerce, Bank of America), James McCaffrey (Executive VP,
TBS), Shannon Wells (Global Director, Microsoft), and Jim Whitehurst
(President and CEO, Red Hat). A collaboration between Fuqua, Duke
Corporate Education, Duke Athletics/Coach K, and the Kenan Institute
for Ethics, the conference drew speakers, moderators, and attendees
from all over the USA.

We hosted our annual Coaches Clinic that day and about 400 coaches attended the
event. Attendees watched two practices and attended a video session with our staff.

‘When you stop learning, you stop
living.’ In our profession you can win
so much that, where do you keep learn-
ing? Where are your avenues to learn?
That’s one of the big things from the
USA Basketball experience. I’ve learned
so much. Instead of reducing shelf life,
it’s increased shelf life.”
