DUKE HISTORY 101: Coach K’s National Player of the Year Winners
College basketball lacks it’s own version of the Heisman Award - That one award everyone talks about
all year given to the top player. A number of media outlets and associations hands out their own
National Player of the Year awards at the end of the college hoops season, but only four are recognized
in the NCAA Record Book (AP, USBWA, Naismith, Wooden). Coach K’s players have had great success
with the main NPOY honors, as an NCAA-record seven different Blue Devils (pictured below) have won
at least one of those honors in a given year under our head coach (John Wooden ranks second all-time
with four winners).
