For this year’s Countdown to Craziness, Duke Basketball
asked Duke Improv (DUI) for their thoughts on how to
deliver some comedy involving our players at the event.
After productive discussions, DUI designed two videos

(“Season Cancelled” and “Great Moments in Cinematic
History”) involving our team and a live skit without our
players. The videos and skit debuted during the final
countdown at CTC.
1. THE RELATIONSHIP GOES WAY BACK
The founding members of DUI were really
good friends with some of the basketball
team’s players and managers. So, when
DUI did their first Big Show, which was

immediately wanted to include basketball
players.

Following that first effort involving the
basketball team, DUI has been trying

3. THE PLAYERS HAD FUN WITH IT
The players read the scripts and got
right in there. They played themselves to
a certain extent so maybe that helped,
but they were really good, very funny. In
general, it seems like they have a good
time doing something together that is less
competitive and really loose, silly and fun.

4. THEY ARE NATURALLY FUNNY
On TV they appear very serious, very
competitive, but they are really funny off
the court. In the Bond video DUI did last
year, Nolan and Lance came up with some
of the funniest lines. You rarely see their
social personalities, but as soon as you do
you realize how hilarious and silly they can
be. You immediately want to include them
in videos. They are normal people, normal
guys, and they crack the same kinds of

jokes we all do.
