Health Policy Statistics Section (HPSS) Biannual Awards
HPSS Mid-Career Award
Recipient must be less than 45 years old on January 1, 2010, and cannot be a previous HPSS Mid-Career Award winner.
Prize: Recipient will receive a personalized plaque, recognizing his or her specific achievements.
HPSS Long-Term Excellence Award
Recipient must be 45 years or older on January 1, 2010, and cannot be a previous HPSS Long-Term Excellence Award
winner. Recipient can be a previous HPSS Mid-Career Award winner.
Prize: Recipient will receive a personalized plaque, recognizing relevant career accomplishments.
The purpose of these awards is to honor individuals who have made significant contributions to the development of
statistical methods for health care policy or health services research, to encourage research in this area, and to increase
awareness of the HPSS in the statistical community. Candidates for awards should be recognized leaders in the field with
outstanding contributions through methodological or applied work in statistics.
Nominations for the award should be sent by July 15, 2009, to the HPSS Awards Committee, c/o Emily Taylor Bever, RAND
Corporation, 1200 South Hayes St., Arlington, VA 22202. Email inquiries to bonnieg@ra nd.org. Please include the nominee’s
curriculum vitae and a letter (not to exceed two pages) from the nominator summarizing the candidate’s credentials for
the award. Self-nomination is allowed. Neither the nominee nor the nominator needs to be a current HPSS member. Please
include the name of an independent evaluator (other than the nominator or nominee) willing and able to evaluate the
impact of the nominee’s statistical work on health care policy or health services research in the United States or internation-
ally. Be sure to include contact information for the nominee, the nominator (if different), and the evaluator.
Adjudication of Awards
The award recipients will be determined from a subcommittee comprising current members of the HPSS executive committee,
past chairs of the HPSS, past co-chairs of the ICHPS, and past award winners. The subcommittee will be selected by the current
HPSS executive committee and comprise five persons.
The awards will be presented at the start of the plenary session at the biannual International Conference on Health Policy
Statistics (ICHPS) on January 21, 2010, in Washington, DC.
