5K Run Benefits
FOLK’s Conservation Programs
T
he Florida Department of Environmental Protection will host
the fourth annual Turtle Trot 5K run at 8 a.m. on May 16, at
Lovers Key State Park. The unique 5K trail course takes partici-
pants through a shady maritime hammock ecosystem and ends
at a pristine natural beach, where awards will be presented and breakfast served.
The Turtle Trot is open to all levels, from competitive runners to first-timers. A
chip timing system ensures accurate results for every participant. Proceeds from the
race will benefit the Friends of Lovers Key (FOLK), which helps fund conservation
projects such as sea turtle and shorebird nesting programs.

The registration fee is $20 before May 9 and $25 after. Lovers Key State Park is located
at 8700 Estero Blvd, in Fort Myers Beach. Registration begins at 7 a.m. To register,

Well Being Classes Create Healthy Dynamics
A
nn Smith offers a new series, Well Being, to help individuals
create a healthier self, family, community and world. Well
Being stretches and relaxes body/mind/spirit, she says, beginning
with oneself, to become a change agent in the world. Classes are
scheduled from 7 to 9 p.m., Mondays, beginning May 4, at Happe-
hatchee Center, 8791 Corkscrew Road, in Estero.
The series focus on four areas: Knowing and caring for ourselves
and all creation; Discovering and nurturing passions and skills; Ann Smith
Co-creating well being in our lives and the world and; Co-creating
ongoing circles and sustainable communities. Each session builds upon the other,

says Smith. Tai Chi, yoga, breathing, mediation, visualizations and other spirit-filled,
sustainable practices are woven throughout the sessions.
