Loved it, actually I actually sat down and read Adventure Kayak cover-to-cover for the first time. I enjoyed it. I particularly liked the article about the Newfoundland trip, especially the pictures, and the go-light article was useful as well (Summer 2008).

What do you mean, “actually?” You sound sur- prised.—Eds.
Showing our age What gives with the new masthead? I almost mistook your magazine for Colonial Traditions Kayaking. If the “adventure kayakers” weren’t picking up your magazine before, they are going to be hard pressed to find it now, lost among Traditional Home and Shooting Sportsman magazines.

Nice eye, Prewitt Scripps! We did update our cover for 2009. Next year Adventure Kayak turns 10, which in paddler years is like a couple hundred, so “colonial” was exactly what we were shooting for.—Eds. and designer.
What kayak should I buy? I am 60 years of age, 6-feet 4-inches tall and weigh about 230 pounds. My wife at 5-feet 8- inches and 130 pounds is much more flexible (and probably in better shape). Is there a kayak that is available for my size and will it be more accommodating than a canoe? And also is there a smaller version for Jo-Ann? We are looking at some longer day trips on flatwater and would like to be able to cover more ground with greater ease than our canoe allows. We do not want a double as she or I may go solo on occasion. Also, is a kayak more stable than a canoe and what are its advantages?

Kayaks may be what you’re looking for. Te only way to know for sure is to try one. Versus canoes,
kayaks are easier to paddle in wind and waves and easier to keep straight. Stability depends on the model, but since you sit lower and have a deck to keep water out, kayaks tend to be more seawor- thy. Kayaks come in various sizes. Visit a special- ty kayak shop and you will find several options for both you and your wife. Good luck.—Eds.
