WHEN IRENE SKYRIVER embarked on a solo kayak expedition from Ketchikan to her home on Lopez Island, Washington, more than a decade ago, she did so with little in the way of equipment and training. Recently, the 30-year kayaking veteran took a break from writing about her trip to share some of her worldly and otherworldly travel tips with Ad- venture Kayak.
