In consultation with some of our North American alumni (James Bundy,
G
ht
Dean of Yale School of Drama, Kristin Linklater of Columbia and Prof.
Michael Hackett of UCLA) the traditional year-long course has been adapted
into two single-semester courses. We believe this new format will co-ordinate
better with your university or college dates and systems.
The course aims to develop the individual’s knowledge and understanding
of classical texts. These will include Shakespeare and either Jacobean
or Restoration playwrights.
An extensive pack of information is available upon request, to professors
who might wish to ascertain the suitability of the course for their students.
Our website will provide up-to-date information about the availability
of places – and much more.
You will be trained in the same way and by the same faculty as students
on longer courses at LAMDA. A minimum of 35 hours of practical work
(Monday-Friday) based on the three central elements of our training: acting,
movement, and voice. Work is conducted in small groups. All classes
are compulsory. It is a typical British Conservatoire programme.
There will be opportunities to attend West End productions and experience
the variety that London theatre has to offer. There will be a visit to Stratford
upon Avon, Shakespeare’s birthplace to see the work of the Royal Shakespeare
Company first-hand. You will also be encouraged to take part in the many
social activities which are an integral part of being a student at LAMDA.
The practical class work includes:
Acting & Improvisation Voice & Verse Speaking
Textual Interpretation & Analysis Movement
Physical Theatre & Stage Combat Singing
Historic Dance, Jazz or Flamenco Alexander Technique
Dramatic work covered is as follows:
Autumn Semester: Shakespeare and Jacobean
Spring Semester: Shakespeare and Restoration
adMission: Acceptance on this course is by arrangement with your
university. Direct applications can be submitted for consideration.
The course is assessed under the English Higher Education scheme.
LAMDA can provide transcripts upon request with grading assessments
to assist with credits. For further details contact our Academic
Vice-Principal.
