Antiaging & the theories of Aging
Membrane
The membrane hypothesis of aging was first described by Professor Imre Zs.-Nagy in the
1990’s. As we age, the cell membrane becomes less watery and more solid, leading to less
efficient enzymatic activity and increasing the likelihood of free radical production. This
reduced cell efficiency inhibits the essential and regular transfer of sodium and potassium,
as well as electrical and heat transfer, thereby reducing cell-to-cell communication.
Furthermore, the cell’s ability to conduct efficient, normal function is hindered by a toxic
accumulation called lipofuscin. With age, lipofuscin deposits can be found in the brain,

heart, lungs and skin. The best agent to remove lipofuscin and improve membrane

condition is:
Centrophenoxine Item code: 0243 60x 250mg tablets $29.99
Cross-linking
The cross-linking theory of aging is also referred to as the glycosylation theory of aging, and
was first proposed by Dr. Johan Bjorksten in the 1940’s. It refers to the binding of glucose to
protein, a process that occurs under the presence of oxygen. You can see cross-linking in action
by cutting an apple in half and watching the oxygen react with the glucose, which makes it
turn from yellow to brown. If this binding occurs, the protein becomes unable to perform as
efficiently. Recognized disorders of excessive cross-linking include cataracts, diabetes and the
appearance of tough, leathery and discolored skin. The best anti-glycators available today are:
Aminoguanidine Item code: 0303 100x 75mg tablets $24.99
L-Carnosine Item code: 0634 30x 500mg capsules $29.99
(note; carnosine can also be found in ACF228™and CardioPro™)
Pyridoxamine Item code: 0449 60x 50mg tablets $19.99
Rotational
The rotational theory of aging is proposed by Walter Pierpaoli, M.D. It asserts that the pineal gland is control-
ling aging by literally counting down the day/night, (wake/sleep) cycles. Disruption to these cycles affects the
circadian rhythms, which in turn disrupt the hormonal patterns, leading to accelerated aging.
Dr. Pierpaoli’s work suggests that the key to slowing and arresting this cycle and to
improving circadian rhythms is to use melatonin before sleep. IAS offers Dr. Pierpao-
li’s special formula, details of which can be seen on page 29.
