Thymus at the center of the immune system
The thymus gland, which lies in the chest region, is perhaps the most overlooked
endocrine gland today. Yet the 13 recognised peptides that make up the output of the
thymus gland play an important role in maintaining white blood cell activity and a strong
immune system. Those suffering from autoimmune disorders and conditions such as
rheumatoid arthritis have benefited greatly from regular thymus supplementation. IAS
offers the German pharmaceutically prepared Thym-Uvocal - a thymus extract of bovine
origin (Australian sourced) that is the only one currently available that contains all of the
thymic peptides.

Thyroid is a hormone with many uses and benefits
The thyroid is a gland situated in the neck, its two principle hormones being thyroxine (T4) and L-triiodothyronine (T3),
although it should be noted that T1 and T2 are also excreted.
T4 is secreted from the thyroid gland and the majority of the potent T3 is converted outside the thyroid gland from T4. As
opposed to synthetic single thyroids, the naturally derived thyroids (such as Armour®) contain T3 and T4 as well as T1 and T2.
Thyroid hormones affect the body’s use of vitamins, proteins, carbohydrates, fats, electrolytes and water; and regulate the
body’s immune response.
The mechanisms by which thyroid hormones exert their actions are not well understood, but enhancement of oxygen con-
sumption increases of the basal metabolic rate, as well as the metabolism of carbohydrates, lipids and proteins, are known to
play significant roles. Thus, the thyroid exerts a profound influence on every organ in the body.
As a result, a correctly functioning thyroid can assist weight control, improve sleep patterns, regulate body temperature,
enhance skin and hair condition, alleviate menstrual problems, maintain healthy energy levels, elevate mood, improve alert-
ness and concentration, and boost immunity.
If you are suffering from one or more of the above problems, then you could have a thyroid condition. It is quite a common
problem, and is considered to affect as much as 40% of the adult population.
If you suffer from regular cold hands and feet, or if your morning temperature upon rising is often less than 97.8 degrees
Fahrenheit, then you may benefit from some thyroid supplementation. Please note that side-effects, contraindications and
dosages can be found on the IAS website.
