clearly apparent in the ‘WOW’ factor of the Q3 2009 Show.
It proved to be one of the most well attended shows with almost all the
Membership having representation as well as several potential new
Members attending for the first time.
Members entered the impressive Cranmore Park showroom,
INTERSPORT’s purpose-built exhibition centre, via a custom-made ‘tunnel’ in
which plasma screens ran advertisements from certain exhibiting brands,
with dramatic sound effects and an array of sports memorabilia on display.
A ‘Boot Room’ area was created to give the atmosphere of a club
changing room and to provide Members with an overview of a selection of
the footwear ranges available. It was from here that an interview with
special guest, former England manager Graham Taylor,
ARSENAL. CHELSEA. EVERTON.
was televised and shown on Sky Sports News, Setanta
LIVERPOOL. MAN CITY.
and the local BBC stations.
TOTTENHAM. WEST HAM UNITED.
The general feedback from the 29 brands in
attendance was that the show was an overall
success for them. Many of them felt that there
was a definite ‘buzz’ and renewed energy.
Two of the seven ‘showcase’ brands
exhibiting – Skins and Under Armour – will
become INTERSPORT Suppliers with effect
from March 1st.
David Ling, General Manager of Skins,
commented: “We were delighted to have
presence at the INTERSPORT Show and felt
that there was a significant improvement in
layout and interaction with Members. We are
looking forward to working with INTERSPORT
retailers to promote the Skins product range to
consumers who are passionate about their own
particular sport.”
He added: “In these days of ‘doom and gloom’, the independents have a
great opportunity to consolidate and set themselves apart from the
multiples, with knowledgeable staff on hand to offer inspirational expertise
and advice. Despite these hard times for retail, Skins have had two record
months in succession, a reflection of the fact that the serious sportsperson
will still indulge and invest in their sport.”
To encourage networking and further interaction between Members and
Suppliers, the first day of the Show was rounded off by an enjoyable and
informal ‘Indoor Sports Challenge’ evening hosted by INTERSPORT. This
gave all those involved in the INTERSPORT community the chance to express
their competitive prowess in a mini-tournament of games including virtual
golf, skittles and snooker.
A third day, January 8th, was dedicated to INTERSPORT’s own branded
products.
Prospective Members are invited to attend the INTERSPORT Q4 2009
Buying Show on Tuesday 24 and Wednesday 25 March at Cranmore Park,
Shirley, Solihull. To register your place, or to find out more about becoming
an INTERSPORT Member or Supplier, please contact Barry Mellis, General
Manager, on 0121 683 1466 or email barry.mellis@intersport.co.uk
