I enjoyed the article on “North to the Broughtons”
in your Dec. ‘08 issue. My husband, Miss Mouse the cat
and I spend a lot of time there as well aboard Second Love.
My suggestion is for folks to go further north to Jennis

to the back country.) This marina resort was developed
and owned by the wonderful Allo family, Allyson, Tom,
daughter Charlie Marie and son, Orion. It’s a great find
with excellent docks (no power) and old logging paths
for hiking or walking your pooch. Tuesday’s Mardis
Gras/Cajun night is very popular. Tom comes from
Cajun country, so Allyson whips up wonderful batches
of Jambalaya and gumbo which includes locally caught
prawns and crab. The cruisers bring either a dessert or
a side dish to share. Yum! We’ve met some wonderful
cruisers at the happy hours and dinners. This area is not
nearly as crowded as points south and is quite lovely to
explore. Read the 2009 Waggoner’s Cruising Guide review Expect the Best
