REEVES MEMORIAL —A life-sized statue of Jim Reeves commemorates the Panola County native who became a country/western singer and member of the Country Music Hall of Fame. He died in a plane crash in 1964. Three miles east of downtown on U.S. 79.


TEXAS COUNTRY MUSIC HALL OF FAME AND TEX RITTER MUSEUM —Pays tribute to Texans who have made an indelible mark on country music and contains memorabilia from Ritter, an early member of the Grand Ole Opry. SCENIC DRIVE —Many Forest Service roads in the Sabine National Forest offer exceptional scenery. One excellent route is via Texas 87 S., then take F.M. 417 or F.M. 2694 (not shown on most maps) to Boles Field Recreational Area.


SHELBY COUNTY COURTHOUSE —Erected more than 125 years ago, the picturesque 19th-century courthouse, with turrets and towers, is modeled after an Irish castle. It’s listed in the National Register of Historic Buildings. On the courthouse square.


SHELBY COUNTY MUSEUM —Shelby County, one of the original counties in the Republic of Texas, is rich in history. The museum features historical items from bearskins and bottles to war bonnets. 230 Pecan St. In the historic 1905 Weaver-Oates home. 936/598-3613.
