Doosan to Demonstrate Its Newest Technology at IMTS 2016

Vertical Machining Centers Doosan has evolved its popular and field-proven DMN series of vertical machining centers. Doosan will demonstrate them at Booth S-9100. The new series is the third generation of this VMC line. “Some of the aspects of the new VMCs to highlight are that we’ve stepped up the speed with faster spindle acceleration and deceleration rates,” said Ron Kilgore, Doosan’s general manager-inside sales. “We’ve also upgraded the Doosan Fanuc OiMF control, which provides quicker processing speed.” Added Kilgore: “The new DNM VMCs are general purpose, work- force machines for customers who need robust and accurate per- formance. In fact, we refer to them as the ‘Global Standard.’” The new DMN series is comprised of three machines, the DMN 4500, 5700 and 6700. In general, the series offers larger cutting space by 6%, bigger table sizes by 14% and heavier loads by 25% while main- taining the same overall footprint as the previous generation.

Compact Linear Pallet System Doosan Machine Tools America will show the LPSII linear pallet sys- tem at IMTS. It will be fully functioning with its high-performance HP 5100II horizontal machining center. “We classify this system as ‘compact’ with a 12-pallet capacity serving one machine,” said Jim Im, Doosan’s engineering manag- er-machining centers.

“We off more extensive systems – some with up to 72 pallets,” he added. “We designed the LPSII compact system with floor space concerns in mind. Many of our customers want to boost productiv- ity but can’t add real estate so we wanted to be sure to bring this particular system to IMTS.” Workpiece sizes up to 800 mm in diameter x 900 mm high (31.4” x 35.4”) can be accommodated on each pallet and with weights as much as 500 kg (1102.5 lbs).

DMN 5700

For the three models, the X-axis travel is 800 mm (31.5”), 1050 mm (41.3”) and 1300 mm (51”). Y-axis is 450 mm (17.7”), 570 mm (22.4”) and 670 mm (26.4). Z-axis is 510 mm (20”), 510 mm (20”) and 625 mm (24.6”). The new DMN series features direct-coupled, thru-coolant type spindles as standard, providing 8000 rpm (15/11 kW) and 12,000 rpm (18.5/11 kW). Vibration and noise are reduced during high- speed operations. Thermal displacement also is improved. The series has table sizes of 1000 mm x 450 mm (39.4” x 17.7”), 1300 mm x 570 mm (51.2” x 21.3”) and 1500 mm x 670 mm (59.1” x 26.4”). Maximum table loads are 600 kg (1322.8 lbs), 1000 kg (2204.6 lbs) and 1300 kg (2866 lbs).

Compact Turning Center Doosan has introduced its latest generation Lynx 2100 series of turning centers that evolved from the company’s popular Lynx 220 series. The new models will be presented at IMTS. An M version in the series has milling capabilities offering the convenience, accuracy and productivity that one setup machin- ing provides. “We believe this machine will generate a lot of interest at the show,” said Shane Richards, product support manager for turning centers. “It’s a robust, compact package of power ideal for machining valves, shafts, gears, flanges, housings, bolts and other metal parts.” The machine can handle parts up to a maximum turning diameter of 350 mm (13.8”) and length of 550 mm (21.7”). The Lynx 2100 series also includes a wider support structure for X and Z axes and tailstock traverse. The X and Z axes are fit- ted with rigid roller-type guideways. It has a 15kW (20 hp) mo- tor providing ample power for turning outer and inner surfaces and U-drilling. The higher power/high torque 6000 rpm turning spindle (with 6” chuyck) and 169 Nm (8” chuck) (124.7 ft-labs) motor supports
