JANUARY 2017 PUBLISHED FOR MEMBERS OF EAST CENTRAL ELECTRIC COOPERATIVE

Then the unbelievable happened: Sharon and her husband, Ed Allen, won the dream vacation given away at the East Central Electric (ECE) Annual Meeting in July. Members who registered at the meeting were eligible for many prizes including the grand prize travel opportunity.

"When we found out we'd won, I couldn't believe it," Sharon admits. "For us, this was truly the chance of a lifetime."

The Allen's live four miles south of Okmulgee and are self-admitted home bodies. "The only time I'd ever flown on a plane was in 1981 when I flew to San Diego," Sharon said. Ed is a more seasoned traveler, she added, but luxury

vacations weren't something the couple enjoyed much—or ever.

That changed on October 18 when they boarded the plane for Honolulu. For the next week, the Allen's basked in the balmy weather, strolled the beach, and ate "the best pineapple on the planet," said Sharon.

From the balcony of their room at the Hyatt Regency, they enjoyed an expansive view of Waikiki beach. "We spent

a lot of time just staring at the ocean," Sharon said. "I've never seen that much water."

One day they hired a driver and enjoyed a private driving tour of Oahu, with stops at the Dole pineapple factory, a macadamia nut farm, and the set of the upcoming Jumanji II movie. Another adventure included an island tour via helicopter without doors.
