December 2015 Two join SWRE Line Crew


Bo Lesley and Kelby Boyd recently joined Southwest Rural Electric as groundsmen/apprentice linemen. Both are part of SWRE’s Texas crew working out of the co-op’s Vernon warehouse. Bo grew up in Vernon and is a graduate of Vernon High School. He currently resides in Crowell. Kelby is a Frederick native and is a Frederick High School graduate. “We are pleased to have both Bo and Kelby as part of the SWRE team,” said Mike Hagy, SWRE CEO.

Entry forms for SWRE’s annual youth essay contests are currently available. High school juniors who live or attend school in the SWRE service area are encouraged to enter the Government in Action Youth Tour Essay Contest. Top prize for one Oklahoma student and one Texas student will be all-expense paid trips to Washington, D.C. this summer.


Finalists will receive $250 cash prizes.


Deadline for the 11th grade Youth


Tour Contest essay is February 17, 2016.


Eighth grade students may enter the


Youth Energy Camp Essay Contest. Top prize for one Oklahoma student and one Texas student will be a trip this summer to the Youth Energy Camp at the spectacular Canyon Camp near Hinton, Oklahoma. Finalists will receive a $50 cash prize. Deadline for the 8th grade Energy Camp Contest essay is March 9. Complete contest information and entry materials have been sent to schools throughout Texoma. Materials are also available online at SWRE.com under “News and Events”. Entry forms may also be requested by calling 1-800-256-7973.


What’s Cookin’ in the SWRE Kitchen Lemon Pecan Pie


1 cup firmly packed dark brown sugar 1/2 cup granulated sugar 2 large eggs


1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted


1-1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract 2 teaspoons finely grated lemon zest 3 tablespoons fresh squeezed lemon juice


2 tablespoons milk


2 tablespoons all-purpose flour 1 cup chopped pecans 1 cup pecan halves


1 store-bought 9-inch deep-dish pie shell, unbaked


Directions 1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees F.


2. In a large bowl, gently whisk together the brown sugar, granulated sugar and eggs until incorporated.


3. Stir in the butter, vanilla, lemon zest and juice, milk, flour and 1 cup chopped pecans until combined.


4. Pour the mixture into the unbaked pie shell. Arrange the pecan halves on top of the pie.


5. Bake until the crust is golden brown and the filling is set but still a little loose in the center (it will set as it cools) -- about 55 minutes.


6. Serve warm or at room temperature. 24-Hour
