Kiamichi Electric On the Move Co-op employees prepare to move to KEC's new office building

oxes, tape, and plenty of muscle will be put to good use over the next two months as Kiamichi Electric Cooperative prepares to shift operations to its newly constructed office building.

The new building, located due north of KEC's current building, is a state-of-the art facility with over 25,000 square feet of space and a new warehouse.

"Members visiting the office in April and May may recognize the signs of a move in progress, but for the most part, we anticipate a seamless transition," said Linda Baldwin, KEC executive assistant.

What You Need to Know About Our Move

• KEC will move to its new building in May. KEC will post its official moving date on Facebook and other media.

• The office will close for a day or more during the move.

• On moving day, members will be able to report power outages via telephone. All other services will temporarily suspended until the move is complete.

An official moving date is pending as construction crews complete certain end-stage tasks such as installing flooring and laying asphalt in the parking area. Baldwin said the co-op hopes to make the move sometime in May.

As that date draws near, co-op personnel will pack KEC records, files and office equipment and mark each box by department.

KEC employees will move all boxes and equipment themselves.

Shannon Veerkamp, KEC manager of information technology, said the one of the biggest challenges in moving is to transfer the co-op's computer system and all associated technology.

"KEC offices will likely close for at least half a day while we do this," Veerkamp said.

Because KEC's main server will be down during this time, members will be unable to pay bills online, check account balance, or use other services. "Members will be able to report power outages by telephone during this time but that's it until our system is back up and running," she said.

KEC will notify members of its official moving date via Facebook and other media. We appreciate your patience during this transition and look forward to serving you in the improved safety and comfort of our new building!
