Welcome to the most important photonics event of the year!
L
aser World of Photonics is by far the most important event for EPIC.
From the 900 exhibitors, almost a third are members of the association. Eleven employees attended this year’s event – a unique opportunity for staff to meet with members. If you were present, you may have noticed our 61-square-metre booth located at the entrance of the exhibition. We hope it felt like a cozy booth! People were continuously stopping by, spontaneous meetings took place, or were organised last minute to provide a pleasant environment for members and their customers to meet. While I was initially very concerned that because this year’s edition would not feature the usual conference programme organised by academic partnersand therefore there would be fewer visitors, feedback was that the quality of visitors was in fact higher. People came looking for solutions, the show was more OEM and industry oriented, which is well suited to members of EPIC. Parallel to the exhibition, EPIC organised six short technology meetings, offering the opportunity for focused communities to gather and network. The recurring EPIC CEO Exhibitors Breakfast gathered 100 executives, featuring presentations by Benno Oderkerk (president of EPIC, and former CEO of

Avantes) who has attended this exhibition for over 30 years, and Reinhard Voelkel, CEO of Suss MicroOptics, recipient of the EPIC CEO Award 2022. EPIC held an investors meeting to finalise and implement an action plan aimed at connecting companies looking to raise capital with companies or individuals interested in investing. The programme will be rolled out at full speed in the second half of the year.
EPIC is often requested to
organise additional events during the exhibition, but our policy is to not compete with events from our members, but
instead support their events – including the many booth parties that are so attractive not only because of the free booze (Toptica Photonics), but also the live music (NKT Photonics, Ams Technologies) and dancing (Hubner Photonics really wins in this category!). Laser Components celebrated its 40th anniversary at the

Schuhbecks Teatro, which was a very enjoyable and entertaining experience. The Innovation Award
organised by Messe Munich was presented for the second time in conjunction with Europa Science and its winners included EPIC members Hamamatsu Photonics, Glassomer and Qiova. EPIC looks forward to the next Laser World of Photonics, where it will celebrate its 20th anniversary on 26 June 2023. Before that, we look forward to Laser World of Photonics India, and China. EPIC is pleased to partner with Messe Munich in Europe and also internationally.
