FIBRE OPTICS LASERS AND DIODES Duetto 349 single frequency DPSS CW device NIR-MPX series of phase modulators
Laser Components has introduced phase modulators especially designed to operate in the 1,000nm wavelength band. The NIR-MPX series uses a proton exchange
based waveguide process that gives them excellent stability even when operating at high optical power. The NIR-MPX phase modulators come with high PER and low IL options. They feature a high input optical power (25dBm) along with a low Vpi, typically 1.5V. The NIR-MPX-LN-0.1 phase modulator has become the reference component for many applications involving lasers such as spectrum broadening for suppression of the stimulated Brillouin back scattering effect (SBS), Pound- Drever-Hall (PDH) and coherent laser beam combining (CBC) techniques. One of the key parameters determining the performance of the modulation is the residual amplitude modulation (RAM). The NIR-MPX-LN-0.1 phase modulator combined with its matching RF driver DR-VE- 0.1-MO can be specified with an exceptional 30dB of RAM.

UniKLasers has launched an ultra-violet (UV) laser – the Duetto 349 – a single frequency DPSS CW device that emits at 349nm with a 50mW output. This laser can be used across a wide range of scientific research and industrial engineering processes – including Raman spectroscopy, flow cytometry, confocal microscopy, high precision optics and biomedical engineering - applications where the laser system provides continuous wave (CW) to further enhance engineering precision. Current UV CW laser solutions for these
applications are large, either due to a need for a gas cavity, external doubling cavity, or additional frequency-doubling steps. This hinders integration into existing, established measurement systems where lasers with a small footprint, low ongoing maintenance requirements, and high stability are well suited.
SPDC810 correlated photon-pair source
Thorlabs has introduced the latest addition to its product lineup for the field of quantum photonics, a correlated photon-pair source. The availability of a robust, high-brightness photon source is critical to the quantum photonics community for any number of applications spanning from fundamental photon-matter interaction to device characterisation. The design uses a user-adjustable and

ID281 superconducting nanowire single-photon detector system
ID Quantique has released a new version of its ID281 superconducting nanowire single- photon detector system, which is now available in different multi- channel versions, from 4 to 16 channels. The ID281 can integrate a variety of
superconducting nanowire single-photon detectors, featuring quantum efficiencies up to 90 per cent or more, extremely low dark counts and high count rates optimised for different applications. These include QKD and quantum communications, single-photon source characterisation, VIS, NIR and MIR spectroscopy, fluorescence lifetime measurement, and quantum computing as well as other quantum photonics applications.

fully integrated 405nm pump source on the front end of a spontaneous parametric down- conversion (SPDC) device to produce greater than 450kHz photon pairs at 810nm. Various design considerations were evaluated to produce
The Duetto
349 only uses one non-linear step, as opposed to two, without the need for a Nd:YAG fundamental laser at 1,064nm, making it smaller and more efficient, overall, whereas HeCd – being a large, gas filled laser - produces an output at 325nm. Unlike these two legacy laser sources, most
lasers in the UV region are pulsed due to crystal damage/degradation so there are few sources capable of producing CW UV output at this wavelength, hence the enormous expectation UniKLasers has regarding the Duetto 349’s performance.

a best-in-class (greater than 0.45) heralding ratio for use as a heralded single-photon source without sacrificing pair production rates. The results of these efforts, born out of a
collaboration with researchers in academia and private industry, is a fully turnkey, cost-effective solution that is unique in the market. The photon pair (signal and idler) produced in the SPDC process is conveniently fibre coupled out of the compact room-temperature housing for plug-and- play usage.

LIGHTING AND ILLUMINATION Cobra MultiSpec
ProPhotonix has added a new hyperspectral LED line light to its Cobra MultiSpec platform. With a spectral range from 400- 1,000nm and excellent spatial and spectral uniformity, this new option provides an ideal solution for hyperspectral applications. ProPhotonix has developed this hyperspectral line light as a light source for any hyperspectral line scan camera operating in the visible to near- infrared spectrum. The spectrum is well-matched to the highly compact and flexible Specim FX10,
for example, or machine vision cameras using the latest Sony IMX174 sensor. For applications covering an extended spectrum, the Cobra MultiSpec can be developed in configurations of up to twelve wavelengths from 365nm to 1,700nm.
The new Cobra MultiSpec option offers an ideal solution for hyperspectral applications including currency inspection, pharmaceutical analysis, food sorting, grading and analysis, recycling and print inspection.
