Introducing the new OAPEN Open Access Books Toolkit - Helping authors better understand and increase trust in open access books.

There is growing interest in making books open access (OA), and research funders, particularly in Europe and elsewhere, are introducing OA mandates for books. As more funders are supporting the transition to OA books, and more book publishers are providing OA options to authors, a lack of awareness and understanding among authors, and common misconceptions about licensing and quality, form important barriers in the transition to OA for books.

This toolkit is a free-to-access and stakeholder-agnostic resource that aims to help authors better understand OA for books, increase trust in OA book publishing, provide reliable and easy-to-find answers to questions from authors, and to provide guidance in the process of publishing an OA book.

The OAPEN Open Access Books Toolkit offers a coherent set of more than 30 articles addressing various topics related to open access books such as:

· What is open access? · Common misconceptions about OA · Copyright and licensing · Funding · Quality assurance · Publishing options · Discoverability and impact

OAPEN, the hosting and dissemination platform for open access books, developed the toolkit in close collaboration with Springer Nature and the University of Glasgow. The toolkit aims to be a trusted, stakeholder-agnostic resource for users worldwide. The toolkit is governed by representatives from the research community, publishers, funders, and research support.
