At industry events in Europe this winter there has been one overriding topic of discussion – Plan S. This was most definitely the case at the APE event in Berlin, where delegates were provided with an update from Robert-Jan Smits, Special Envoy of the European Commission for Open Access and Innovation, European Political Strategy Centre at the European Commission. On page 18 we present a précis of Smits’ speech, with a selection of industry opinions on how Plan S will pan out for the different players in the scholarly communications industry on the following pages.
