While the subject of open access publishing – and, in particular, Plan S – has dominated discussions at industry events over the last few months, many other matters remain topics of hot conversation in the world of scholarly communications. None more so than peer review – which has been something of a hot, complex and fast-changing topic for a while now. In our main feature on page 4, Rebecca Pool speaks to key players in this important sector and finds that there have been significant changes in recent years – not least in calls for an increase in diversity, in terms of not only a geographical basis but also in increased transparency. Last month, Research Information published its annual industry report, The Scholarly Publishing Research Cycle 2018; following its launch in December we are releasing several interviews in this issue of the magazine, as well as details of how to download the report. We are also excited to note that this issue of Research Information represents the 100th time it has been published, and we have two pieces looking back at some of the key developments over the last 16 years of the magazine. Who would care to predict what changes the industry might undergo before we publish issue number 200?
