Heritage and refurbishment
Due to the scale of the project, more than 460 alarm units have been installed on site, which is the highest number of units to be installed during one project since the inception of the Cygnus alarm system. Bradley Markham, product development
director at Bull Products, commented: ‘We’re thrilled that our alarm system has proved its capabilities on this project. As the project develops, the Cygnus alarm system will grow with it, offering enhanced safety and heightened protection to protect all eight phases of the project.’
Preserving history
When installing fire alarm systems during the renovation of heritage sites, one of the prime challenges that sites face is to avoid any damage to the aesthetics of the buildings. Many of these buildings were built well before electricity was even invented, so safety whilst preserving the originality of the building go hand in hand. One particular setback that is frequently
experienced with a traditional wired alarm system is the use of wires and cables, which could potentially damage heritage interiors. Wireless fire alarm systems provide all the benefits of traditional wired systems, but without potentially hazardous cables. They use radio frequencies rather than wiring, thereby minimising the risk of damage, yet still providing warning of a fire quickly and ensuring workers are kept safe at all times.
When existing technology and devices become wireless, the functionality increases in leaps and bounds – and today emergency fire, first aid and intruder alarm systems have become an integral part of modern life due to their flexibility, reliability, ease of installation and usability.
Think smarter
Regeneration is a major growth industry, and therefore it is paramount that the industry continues to play its part in protecting heritage buildings and that fire safety remains at the forefront of renovation, if we are to preserve listed buildings across the UK and beyond. By thinking smarter and implementing fire safety solutions – such as wireless alarm systems – from the beginning we can safeguard historic sites and buildings today and in the future
