Heritage and refurbishment Case studies – Wireless alarm systems
OVER THE last few years, wireless alarm systems, such as those produced by Cygnus, have protected a variety of heritage buildings. Although there were many challenges and complexities involved in the Cygnus installations, there was one common theme throughout all the renovations, which was to protect and preserve the building to the highest possible quality.
Shell building, Netherlands Established for more than 100 years, this Grade II listed building in the Netherlands, had started showing serious signs of decay. To restore the building to its original
state, major restoration work was required during which time alarm systems were vital in order to protect the site. More than 100 alarm systems were installed across it, including the Cygnus control panel and heat detector. Raymond Huizing, project manager
at Shell, commented: ‘After we saw this system at the Shell building in London, we were confident that it would be ideal during renovation of our headquarters in the Netherlands. ‘There’s so much historical significance and important architectural impact that we worked with Bull to ensure we had the right alarm systems in place to protect this building to the highest standards.’

Once complete, it will be a target destination for locals, tourists and residents to enjoy a range of restaurants, shops, parks and cultural spaces.
