EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW - BY SAMUEL McKEOWN
‘A mentor who was a tormentor’: confessions of Trump’s former female engineer Barbara Res
SHE built Trump Tower between 1979 and ’83, becoming the vice-president of The Trump Organisation for 12 years. Speaking to ToolBusiness+Hire Magazine, Barbara Res, 69, reveals all on the construction industry; current events; and the man himself, US President Donald Trump. Two years ago, a man that epitomises the phrase marmite – either love it or hate it – became President of the United States of America. His name? Donald Trump. Since his White House tenure his policies have divided nations; he’s been accused of being anti- women; and he’s even called the leader of North Korea “rocket-man”.
The question is, was Trump
always like this? The only way to find out is asking someone who knew the man himself when he was less, let’s say,
‘president-y’. In step Barbara Res (PE, Esq).
Barbara, who is the author of All Alone on the 68th Floor, worked for Trump for almost 18 years, during which she was
assigned chief engineer of Trump Tower, on 5th Avenue, during its construction between 1979 and 1983.
Where it all began
Since before – and after – Trump became the man inside the Oval Office, in November 2016, the female engineer has been thrust into the media spotlight. Her testimonies include honest accounts of being female within the construction industry from the late 1970s to now. Her claims reveal revelations of sexual misconduct and shocking unequal treatment between men and women within construction, which she feels remains rife today. Speaking to Barbara at UK Construction Week, in Birmingham, on October 10, she spoke how she now juggles several roles, including working as an attorney, a proprietor, and construction advisor. The 69-year-old also stated how she now has a positive relationship with her twin children Peter, 32, and her artistic daughter, who now goes by the name Res. She said: “My kids have grown up so I don’t have any major responsibilities like I used to, so let’s talk about the past.
