The Preparation Group introduces 'How to Use' cards to make operation easy

THE Preparation Group has introduced easy-to-read ‘How to Use’ cards onto its range of shotblasters, grinders, planers, scrapers, dust extractors and tools.

The cards have clear, step by step pictorial instructions and include QR codes that, when scanned with a mobile phone or tablet camera, take people directly to a video that shows switching the machine on, changing components and fi tting accessories.

The company has spent the last few months producing a series of videos for its YouTube channel that aim to simplify using its machines and highlight important Health and Safety features.

Tracey Glew, group managing director Said: "The company has recently attained its SafeHire Certifi cation for the third year running and Kate Walshaw, group hire manager, re-elected as an HAE Supply Chain board member. Our marketing and technical personnel have been committed to leading the way in innovation and health and safety.

"The launch of our ‘How to’ initiative for The Preparation Group’s 110v equipment in the hire market has been a huge success and we have now rolled it out to all of our three-phase machines. As part of our commitment to provide quality surface and fl oor preparation products, we will continue to address key issues

to ensure user confi dence in a clean, safe operation and the health and safety of others where operations are being conducted."

The full range of videos can be found on The Preparation Group’s YouTube channel.

WM Plant celebrates 50 years in business

CARLISLE-based WM Plant, which specialises in the sales, hire, spare parts and servicing of a large range of horticultural, construction and forestry equipment, is marking its half-century this year.

The business started in August 1969 as BR Ward Plant Hire when the founder, Barrie Ward, at the age of 21, bought a second hand dump truck and went to work on the new section of the M6 between Penrith and Carlisle. During this 18-month job, Barrie saw the potential in hiring out small, non-operated plant and built his business from there.

As the company grew, they were lucky enough to fi nd many loyal and diligent workers to take on. “We have many long-serving staff ,” explained Barrie. “At a

recent staff meeting we calculated that fi ve members of staff sitting at the table had a total of 181 years of service in our business.”

The spacious, mountainous corner of the country might seem a less-than- ideal place for maximising business, but Barrie wouldn’t have it any other way. “Cumbria is sparsely populated compared to other areas and therefore involves more travel. However, it is well worth it when you consider the wonderful county that we are lucky enough to live in.

“I would encourage local people to 'think local' and support the many enterprising businesses in the area.”

Here’s to the next 50 busy years. Barrie Ward 7
