Mates in Mind appoints James Rudoni as Managing Director


THE charity Mates in Mind, which seeks to address issues of mental health in the UK construction industry, welcomed James Rudoni to the position of Managing Director in December. Steve Hails, Chair of Trustees of Mates in Mind, said: “We believe James’s experience and insight will be of great value to Mates in Mind as it continues to grow in support of the industry’s recognition of the imperative to address mental health and wellbeing given the higher rates of suicide amongst workers in construction and fi nishing trades. “Mates in Mind, as a new industry charity, has been a real success over its fi rst year thanks to key people behind it. In this period, our message has reached almost 200,000 workers through our more-than-175 Supporter and partner organisations. But with the industry employing more than 2 million, we still have some way to go.


In his first week with the charity, James said: “The work that Mates in Mind has done in year one has been hugely impressive and is already having a significant impact in improving understanding of mental health and wellbeing across the construction industry.

New awards added for Plantworx 2019


The organisers of Plantworx, the bi- annual dedicated working construction event for the UK, have added three new categories to the Plantworx Innovation Awards, 2019 which is held in association with Railworx. These have been added to the existing innovation award categories which include Environmental, Security, Safety, Engineering and Effi ciency. The fi rst is the Digital Innovation category. This award is open to all innovative developments that use digital technology to improve any aspect of performance, effi ciency or safety. Reliability Innovation is the second new category. Any innovation that contributes to the reliability of all types of equipment, from single machines to entire systems, is eligible for this award. The fi nal award is the ‘People’s Choice’– this award is where the public will be invited to vote for their favourite nominee using an online voting platform. The deadline for entries is Friday, 22 February 2019, so those wishing to enter had better be swift. Winners will be invited to a black tie awards ceremony on the evening of Thursday, 21 March 2019 at Plantworx and Railworx new home at the East of England Arena in Peterborough.
