Designed to be durable This ultra-durability of a product has lots of immediate practical advantages to its end users. A good example to use is that of storing larger, higher volume chemical units, such as Intermediate Bulk Containers (IBC), which presents its own particular challenges.
We designed our COSHH compliant DrumBank range with these challenges in mind, going the extra mile by building in features such as heavy-duty doors, enclosed storage and spill pallets for various containers, fork skids for easy transportation, raised removable open floor grating and fully welded sump, which all contribute to increasing health and safety performance when storing and transporting 50 gallon drums and IBC containers.
COSSH products need to be durable for many reasons. Designing chemical stores that maintain their integrity during the early minutes of exposure to fire makes a huge difference in an emergency. If you are storing hazardous chemicals and flammables on a construction site, for example, you need a chemical store that is ultra-tough, so that it withstands a fire.
When we designed our FlamBank vault, which is purpose built for construction sites, we specified robust, powder coated steel plate construction for maximum durability and 30 minutes of fire resistance, plus a flame arrester gauze fitted on all ventilation. The extra durability offers more peace of mind.
Durability can also be key to the functionality of the product, even for so-called commodity products such as COSHH cages. When we designed our Gorilla Gas Cage for storing gas cylinders, we came up with a unique modular bolt-together design, using individual galvanised 25mm box sections and 3mm wire mesh panels, making it quick and easy to erect and dismantle. It also packs flat when not in use, which is incredibly helpful for both hire companies and end users.
And it's not only storage requirements that should be factored in when designing a COSHH chemical store. Transportation is also key. HSE regulations require that fuels and chemicals are transported securely, and that means designing for safe transit. Our TransBank secure container for storing hazardous fuels and chemicals, such as standard jerry fuel cans, has integral fixing points to allow the unit to be secured to the vehicle.
Built to last as long as humanly possible Durable products are also more environmentally friendly. This point might not be quite as obvious as safety and security, but with increasing focus on reducing the carbon footprint of businesses, product sustainability is important.
The longer a single product lasts, the more time the environment has to recover the materials used to make it. Therefore, the longer you use your chemical store,

the better it is for the planet. This sustainability is one of the many reasons that it’s more desirable to manufacture high-quality products with an excellent degree of durability.
Just as much innovation goes into how Armorgard products are made as into what they do. You can see that in our range of COSHH chemical stores.
You depend on your hazardous chemicals and flammables storage cabinets, cages and vaults day after day. So, it's vital they are designed to withstand years of use and be ready for more. They have durability built in, both from a design and materials perspective, so you can count on it if something unexpected happens.
