❱❱ Clockwise from main image: The latest generation of EMC test systems from Rohde & Schwarz meets the challenges presented by connected, autonomous vehicles with their complex RF environments; Elektra EMC automated testing software has the flexibility and usability to be deployed in simple desk top applications as well as complex testing systems; AdVISE monitoring and analysis software enables EMC event analysis combined with video monitoring of devices under test; and hardware and software is now available that reaches the peak frequencies expected in the higher bands unlocked in 5G New Radio

radiated spurious emissions (RSE) from 5G components in both FR1 and FR2 frequency ranges using upgraded Elektra EMC test software with measurement and calibration routines for 5G. FR1 and FR2 in 5G New Radio are below

7.225GHz (which includes vehicle to infrastructure communication systems at 5.9GHz) and above 24.25GHZ, stretching out to 52.6GHz. These frequency bands cover a vast range of new applications in telecommunications and the Industrial IoT. The R&S TS8996 RSE test system covers

the entire 5G FR1 and FR2 frequency ranges for RSE measurements. The automated test system measures spurious emissions from 5G components and devices during development and compliance tests. Along with these RSE measurements it also performs the required EMI tests. It uses the R&S Elektra EMC test software, which has been upgraded with measurement and calibration routines for 5G. The system includes an R&S CMX500 5G

radio communication tester for signal generation and the R&S ESW44 high-end EMI test receiver, which has outstanding RF characteristics and high measurement speed in frequency ranges up to 44GHz. The system has a very high sensitivity of

better than -40dBm/MHz at frequencies up to 200GHz. Along with meeting the existing threshold values of the FCC (USA) and the ERC Recommendation (Europe), this enables the use of early pass/fail criteria as well as measurements with large bandwidth to shorten test times. R&S says no other system achieves this with standard components. An upgrade for 5G is available for users who already have an RSE test system from R&S.

For video monitoring of status displays, indicator lamps and screens, Rohde & Schwarz has developed its AdVISE software. It reliably and automatically reports any undesired deviations and can recognise characters, symbols, display bars and pointer positions. Version 5 continuously checks the position of the object under test and adjusts the evaluation in real time. Motor vibrations and turntable shakes

no longer affect automated monitoring and the new technology simplifies changing camera position, too: the reconfiguration of monitoring software to any altered image view is achived with the press of a button. R&S’s AdVISE v5 is matched to the R&S

frequency range above 300MHz. Fast TDS is available at no cost with the next firmware version for the R&S ESW.

BCI TEST FOR WIRED SUSCEPTIBILITY There is also a robust and compact test system for wired EMS measurements using the bulk current injection (BCI) test method, as prescribed for testing electronic modules in vehicles. The BCI system consists of the compact R&S SMC100A signal generator, the robust R&S BBA150-AB broadband amplifier with output power up to 350W in the frequency range from 4kHz to 400MHz, the R&S NRP6AN average power sensor specifically developed for EMC applications and the widely used R&S EMC32 measurement software.

AUTOMATED EMC TESTING FOR 5G R&S had also planned to unveil at EMV 2020 the first turnkey system for measuring

USER FRIENDLY SOFTWARE The R&S Elektra EMC software is not only good as a 5G test system, but can also be deployed generally in efficient, automated test systems with modern user guidance. The software facilitates interactive

measurements during development as well as automated pre-compliance and certification tests for EMI, with a defined degree of automation. It is suitable for EMC certification according to current commercial and military standards as well as EMC standards of the automotive industry. It can also be used to drive test systems for

conducted and radiated EMS. The software can automatically generate test plans for the various tests, perform calibrations and evaluate the results. In each case the generator provides the precise signal level according to IEC 61000-4-3/-4-6. R&S Elektra supports all of the company’s current EMI test receivers and relevant spectrum analysers.
