Chambers align to market changes


The new generation of ClimeEvent products represents the changing applications in which climatic test chambers are being used


is adjusted to a new frequency and, after a pause, the system transient response settles out and the measurement is repeated for the new point. Frequency response functions are built up


from hundreds of individual measurements, each at a single point. Each measurement’s signal-to-noise ratio is improved by the con- centration of the signal and analysis on a sin- gle frequency, while noise remains scattered over the full bandwidth of the system.


New features and enhancements /// The new version, 1.6, provides the capability


to update channel table information in 900 tests from Microsoft Excel, so channel data can be loaded from an Excel document into SignalCalc 900. High-speed shutdown (soft shutdown) is also supported. This is a safety feature that protects high-value test articles from damage during testing. It is useful when used with the Data Physics’ soft shutdown amplifier/shaker system. Large databases or many 900 Series shar- ing a data server can be optimised. These op- timisations ensure fast operation when test databases become large or when a database has tens or hundreds of thousands of runs. Random vibration tests can be resumed


from any stage of the run schedule or a sine test can be resumed at any frequency. The software also enables faster time his-


tory recording transfers when using multiple chassis, improving the time taken to transfer a time history recording from multiple 900 Series to the PC (data server). Version 1.6 allows the user to perform


database searches for specific sensor and shaker serial numbers. This search takes place across all the tests in the database for a specific sensor serial number, shaker model, shaker name, or system serial number. These enhancements are complemented by a number of other improvements and posi- tive changes in useability. C&VT

ix years after Weiss Technik released its ClimeEvent series of climatic test chambers, the company now has its


second generation available. The climatic test chambers of the new


ClimeEvent series have been designed to meet customer requirements and have been completely revised technically, visually and functionally as a result of the practical expe- riences which have been acquired. Since the first ClimeEvent chambers came on the market, the world of climatic testing has changed significantly as the increasing demands of end customers have led to ever more complex testing requirements. With new refrigerants, new control software and op- tional storage, the company is now able to offer the second, completely revised genera- tion of equipment. “Nowadays, it is no longer enough to offer


a robust and reliable test chamber, which is something that is expected,” explains Ralph Theiss, standard product manager at Weiss Technik.


“Our customers need comprehensive test-


ing systems that simplify their day-to-day testing and actively support them, such as our new ClimeEvent test chambers.”


Test and development /// The success story of the ClimeEvent series in-


cludes tens of thousands of test chambers that are used in development departments, test laboratories and quality assurance de- partments worldwide. With so many test chambers in use, a wide range of feedback is received from day-to-day testing. “We have continuously evaluated this feed- back and used it as a starting point for the on- going development of the ClimeEvent family,” continues Theiss. “It was important for us to answer every-

the test chamber’s fittings. There is extra stor- age space on the side of the cabinet for test equipment such as data loggers, laptops, grid shelves, cables or access port plugs. This en- sures a tidy testing environment and in- creased occupational safety. The front screen, which can be darkened at the push of a button using electrochromic technology, is a technological innovation. This means the test specimen can be protected from unwelcome eyes - ideal for laboratories that have to comply with confidentiality agreements. The test chambers have also been funda-


mentally revised in terms of their testing technology. This includes optimised water management with a 27-litre storage tank that displays the remaining amount of deionised water on the control panel and also indicates the expected running time. The water bath has also been enlarged, which increases the humidification capacity to such an extent that demanding climatic tests such as the K15 of the LV124 (BMW con- densation test) are now also possible without additional humidification. The new patented absolute humidity con-


trol enables even more control accuracy, even at high dew points. This new type of control reduces thermo- dynamically induced deviations during cli- mate changes and the transient amplitudes of the humidity values, while also achieving faster rates of humidity change. The result is reproducible test conditions with a new level of precision. C&VT
