building, consisting of Thistle HardWall undercoat and a skim finish coat of ThistlePro PureFinish. Incorporating Activ’Air technology,
ThistlePro PureFinish absorbs and converts formaldehyde to provide a healthier internal environment. This was considered particularly
beneficial for speeding up patient recovery and increasing concentration. Russell Vernum, estates design
manager at St Andrews Healthcare, said: “We have to choose products for healthcare environments very carefully. “We’re looking for products that are very robust in nature and also have very
good aesthetic qualities. “In terms of the plaster specification
at Fitzroy House, we were aware of the Activ’Air technology and wanted to use that to help aid our patient wellbeing within the building.” More than 40,000sq m of the two-coat
plaster was applied to the walls by hand. A further 12,000sq m skim finish was
applied to the Gypframe metal ceilings to achieve a perfect flat finish for the eggshell paint that followed.

Care home to be replaced A
dementia care home is planned as part of a new residential development in Chepstow,
Monmouthshire. The proposed home in Crick Road,
Portskewett, will replace the Severn View Residential Home which is no longer fit for purpose, with no en-suite bathrooms, a ‘restrictive’ layout, and offering little access to outside space. Outline plans, submitted by Melin Homes and Monmouthshire have been
agreed to replace the building as part of a development of 291 homes on the site. The proposed 32-bed care facility
will include 24 long-term beds, four short-term respite beds, and four specialist therapy and rehabilitation beds. An additional 16 beds are also being considered. The bedrooms will be divided into
four households of eight. The design, by Powell Dobson
Architects, also includes shared community spaces and the grounds, designed by landscape architect, Anthony Jellard Associates, will incorporate a pavilion and village square.
