Create a Safer Environment Thanks to the characteristic properties of rubber, nora floor coverings are the ideal solution for use in care homes. A comprehensive colour range of attractive, cosy designs; they offer extraordinary fire safety, perfect hygienic properties, and excellent slip resistance. They are also resistant to urine and surface disinfectants and the extremely- dense and closed floor surface prevent liquids from penetrating into the floor covering. The 4mm-thick noraplan acoustic floor coverings reduce impact forces which are created in case of a fall. Compared to other floor coverings, they reduce forces by almost 50%, ie the impact when falling on the hip can be mitigated by almost half.

Polyflor flooring creates uplifting dementia care environment 1,700sq m of Polyflor’s vinyl flooring was recently used at Cwmgelli Lodge care facility in Blackwood, Wales, which is designed for those with dementia or cognitive impairment. Wood-effect Forest fx PUR sheet vinyl in American Oak was installed throughout the communal areas, circulation spaces, café, and dining areas as well as in the bedrooms. Polysafe Standard PUR safety flooring was also installed to provide sustainable wet slip resistance for residents in en-suite bathrooms. Forest fx’s realistic light wood tones helped to create a refreshing and non-institutional feel that would contribute to reduced anxiety levels for younger residents.

The impact of a safe environment As a person grows older their perception of the environment will undoubtedly change, whether this is due to their vision or what the eye sees and the brain interprets. Therefore, good design of a building is essential to a person being able to navigate it safely and comfortably. Colour is an important part of this and can help to differentiate areas which make it safer for building users and which assist in wayfinding. Intastop hand and grab rails are available in a myriad of colours and wood-effect options, too. Combine this range with wall and door protection solutions to create a safe and welcoming environment. Further information about wall and door and other similar products can be found by visiting the website.
