4 CRAFTBUTCHER l SEPTEMBER 2019

ON TARGET FOR ANOTHER SUCCESS

YPL Exhibitions & Events has confirmed that feedback and interest for this year's UK Sausage week is gaining momentum and as usual there has been a very sizeable entry for the annual competition, with judging having recently taken place at Harper Adams Regional Food Academy.

Supported and promoted by Meat Management magazine, this year the ‘Week’ will start on Monday October 28th and conclude on Sunday November 3rd, capturing the important autumn period over Halloween and approaching bonfire night.

The new refurbished Butchers Hall in London will host the UK Sausage Week celebration lunch on 28th October, including the popular annual Awards ceremony, where sausages from around the country will be recognised, including the coveted UK Supreme Sausage Champion Award.

Organiser Emma Cash comments: “UK Sausage Week is one of the most popular dates in the meat industry calendar, with butchers, retailers, multiples, manufacturers, foodservice and wholesalers involved. It generates a good deal of really positive publicity and gives a real boost to sausage sales.”

Sausage Week itself normally gains substantial coverage and PR across multiple national and regional media platforms.

The overall UK Supreme Sausage Champion in 2018 was NCB member Frank Parker Butchers, which subsequently featured prominently in media such as BBC Radio 2, Channel 4’s Sunday Brunch, Chris Moyles on Radio X, Heart Radio and The Daily Star.

Sausage Week Ambassador The UK Sausage Week Ambassador this year will

be celebrity chef and food businesswoman Lesley Waters. Lesley is well known for her cookery books, and television appearances on Ready Steady Cook (BBC), Great Food Live (UKTV), and This Morning (ITV). Lesley also has her immensely successful cookery school based at Abbot’s Hill Farm in Dorset.

Emma Cash added: “We are really looking forward to Lesley joining us to host the UK Sausage Week lunch on 28th October. She was really popular at the Women In Meat Industry Awards dinner last November which she hosted and is a real enthusiast for our industry.

“We normally have many hundreds of sausages entered for the competition and the

response from the trade is always fantastic. In particular I know UK Sausage Week is actively supported by NCB members and we always get many quality entries from Britain’s leading butchers, plus meat retailers show great innovation and create local promotions or special products to tie in over the week itself.

“UK Sausage Week is fun for everyone and a great way to promote a brilliant product”
