20 CRAFTBUTCHER l SEPTEMBER 2019

EXECUTIVE PROFILE – DAVID GIGLI

David Gigli

Leaving school aged 16 David joined Booth’s Supermarket butchery department during the summer holidays on the advice of a family friend before going to Blackpool and Fylde College.

Whilst at college he worked at Wheeldons and Sons, a chain of eight butchers shops, as a Saturday boy before progressing to full time upon leaving college.

When Wheeldons was taken over by Baxters and then Dewhurst butchers, David moved to Wantage, Oxfordshire to

join Louis Family Butchers and developed his skills in sausage and cooked meats. Missing the north, he joined Colin Gardner Butchers in Buxton, Derbyshire and although not coming from a butchery background David turned to self-employment buying Frank Sharpe Butchers in Lytham St Anne’s, Lancashire at the age of 22.

He met his wife Beverley in 1988 and they married in 1990. They have three children Sarah, Joseph and Harry. Relocating the business in Lytham St Anne’s in 2008, Joseph joined the business in 2011 followed by Harry in 2018. While Sarah chose another vocation and is a District Nurse on the Fylde coast.

David joined and was President of Blackpool & District Meat Traders 1999 - 2000 and became President of the Lancashire Area Council between 2001 - 2003. n
