DMI). The amount of barley in the diet was progressively increased to create an acidogenic diet (from +1 kg/d to +3 kg/d). Both control and bicarbonate cows showed a marked decrease

in rumen pH with the 3 kg/d of additional barley, however, cows on pHix-Up maintained a steady rumen pH. Also, cows on pHix-Up had a greater rumen pH than control cows (with bicarbonate cows showing intermediate values) when the barley challenge was 3 kg/d.

Figure 1: Interaction between challenge and treatment for rumen pH

and challenge, with cows on pHixUp producing more milk (+0.9L) when challenge was 3 kg/d than when it was 1 or 2 kg/d, whereas cows on control produced less milk (-0.7L) with the 3 kg/d challenge, whereas in cows on bicarbonate, milk yield was not altered by the challenge (Figure 3).

As the addition of barley increased, the proportion of time with

pH≤5.8 increased in both control and sodium bicarbonate group, but statistically decreased in pHix-up group (Figure 2). Furthermore, during period 3, cows in the pHix-up group spent significantly less time with pH pH≤5.8 than cows in the control or bicarbonate groups.

severe for the cows fed with the control diet compared with cows in bicarbonate and again cows with pHix-up (-0.14; -0.06 and -0.03 points respectively, P< 0.05).

pHix-up: innovation and proven effi ciency in adding value to high energetic diet European leader in Animal and Plant Nutrition, TIMAB Magnesium places R&D at the core of its processes and innovates daily to better meet our customers’ requirements and to rise to the challenge of improving nutritional performance. TIMAB Magnesium has developed pHix-up, a new nutritional

solution through in-depth research and a unique level of industrial know- how, in order to rapidly neutralize pH acidity in the rumen after feeding, and to maintain an optimal pH for several hours after feeding. Both in-vitro and in-vivo, internal and external studies have shown

that pHix-up has higher neutralizing capacity and a unique mode of action providing both a fast-acting and long lasting effect. Using pHix-up at 0.5% DMI maintains pH over time in cows at risk

Milk yield was affected by an interaction between treatment

of SARA, improves milk production and induces a better valorization of high energetic diet. pHix-up is a natural product, obtained without chemical processing

or additives. It can be used in organic farming. pHix-up can be used directly on farm or incorporated into mineral packs, compound feeds or blend.
