MP meets VIPs (Very Important Pooches)

Member of Parliament for Islwyn, Chris Evans, visited Dogs Trust Bridgend recently and was greeted by plenty of waggy tails from dogs looking for their forever homes. Mr Evans was given a tour of the rehoming centre and met a number of dogs currently awaiting their forever homes, including Teddy Bear, a three-year- old Newfoundland. Speaking following the visit, Rachel Burr, Dogs Trust’s Campaigns Offi cer for Wales, said: “We were delighted to welcome Chris to Dogs Trust Bridgend and it was fantastic to hear his interest in our ongoing campaigns. It was a great opportunity to show him the work we do for the dogs in our care and we were able to discuss our priorities for dog welfare in Wales, particularly our concerns about dog breeding practices and the illegal importation of puppies from Central and Eastern Europe.” Chris Evans MP, commented: “I really enjoyed my visit to Dogs Trust Bridgend and it was a privilege to see the wonderful eff orts of staff at the rehoming centre who work so tirelessly to ensure all unwanted dogs are cared for so well. “We were also able to discuss the charity’s concerns for the welfare of dogs across Wales which I fully

WHAT’S ON

The Red Dragon Centre in Cardiff Bay will be hosting an array of children’s activities this half term to raise money for the Marie Curie Great Daffodil Appeal 2018. On Thursday 22 February the Red Dragon Centre will transform into a fl oral fi esta with fl ower workshops, face painting and the chance for visitors to meet character tributes of Upsy Daisy from In The Night Garden and Fifi from Flower Tot Garden. Budding artists will be invited to join in the free drop-in workshops between 12pm and 4pm where they can get crafty and create their own daffodil windmills. All activity will be free, but donations will go towards Marie Curie. Hannah Leckie, Marie Curie community fundraiser for Cardiff and the Vale, said: “Chances are, we all know someone who’s been affected by a terminal illness. And it’s heartbreaking that not everyone gets the care and support they need to live their fi nal days with dignity, in the place they want to be. Our nurses care for people in our Penarth hospice and in their own homes, providing one-to-one care and support for family members. And we’re always here with expert information, guidance or just a shoulder to lean on. “Every daffodil helps us care for more people – this is what makes the Great Daffodil Appeal so important.” For further information about the Red Dragon Centre, visit www.thereddragoncentre.co.uk.
