Autumn Season at Theatr Brycheiniog may be drawing to a close, but that doesn’t mean things are slowing down at the canal side venue. There are still some red hot shows to come that are guaranteed to warm your heart and keep you smiling right through the festive season and beyond. Starting the festivities will be a live screening of The Royal Ballet’s The Nutcracker (Mon 3). Tchaikovsky’s much loved music is matched with a magical Christmas Eve adventure for Clara and her Nutcracker doll. For the second year running Brecon Town Concert Band will perform a Christmas Hits Concert (Mon 10). This year the concert will feature hits from the 1950s onwards and lyrics will be projected onto a big screen behind the band. The Art Society Brecknock’s fi nal talk of the year will come from Geri Parlby as he explores The History and Art of the Nativity Crib. (Tue 11) The art form of the crib will be explored, from the carved

masterpieces of the medieval era, to the extraordinary semi-pagan variations of South America. The West End at Christmas (Wed 12) promises to bring

a magical evening

of entertainment as the cast perform hits from the musicals alongside the best of Christmas song. Charles Dickens’ classic ghost story A Christmas Carol (Fri 14 – Sun 16) is brought to life in a new production for the whole family to enjoy. Closing Theatr Brycheiniog’s Autumn Season, and indeed the year, will be award winning Only Men Aloud. (Fri 21) The exceptional Welsh male voice choir are back to celebrate the achievements of their last decade in music with some of their favourite songs. My Travel Pass to double eligibility

Thanks to negotiations between Welsh Government and the bus industry, the MyTravelPass discounted bus travel scheme for younger people will be extended to include everyone aged 16 to 21 resident in Wales. Previously open to 16 to 18 year-olds, Transport Secretary Ken Skates made the announcement that the scheme is not only secured until March 2020, but will be available to many more people. The one-third discounted off er began in 2015 when Welsh Government launched a pilot discounted bus travel scheme to provide all 16, 17 and 18 year-olds with discounted bus fares for any journey within Wales. The extension should take eff ect from early December 2018. Existing MyTravelPass holders who have a 16 to 18 years pass, and who wish to take-up this exciting off er, need not do anything now, but should reapply shortly before their existing pass expiries. Transport Secretary Ken Skates said: “I’m pleased to announce that following the consultation exercise I undertook last year and talks with the bus industry we have been able to increase the upper age for discounted bus travel from 18 to 21 years. “I would like to thank the bus industry for agreeing to this improvement. We appreciate their co- operation, as although the Welsh Government pays, their participation is voluntary.” The MyTravelPass scheme was originally established as part of a budget deal between the Welsh Government and the Welsh Liberal Democrats during the last assembly term.
