In the Absence of Silence • 25 Jan • Taliesin Arts Centre

Chickenshed in association with Creu Cymru In the Absence of Silence Five women meet on the beach in a seaside town for a picnic lunch. As the day progresses their friendship and shared experiences reveal devastating truths from the hidden corners of their lives – but through their heartache and pain has come an unbreakable bond of strength, love and hope. In the Absence of Silence is an honest and poignant portrayal of what can all too often be untold stories, and the life-affirming truth of what is possible when the silence is broken. This optimistic and powerful drama is inspired by interviews conducted with women as part of the outreach project, Survivors

Exhibition of Vintage Artists’ Posters • Until 5 Feb • Albany Gallery

In association with Goldmark Gallery this is a collection of original exhibition posters designed by some of the 20th century’s greatest artists in collaboration with renowned Parisian ateliers. Goldmark Gallery have for some time been advocating artists’ posters as a great way to own affordable works by the very best. Many leading artists enjoyed designing their own exhibition posters, often in the form of original

lithographs printed by some of the great Parisian print ateliers such as the Mourlot Frères studio. While the poster, by nature, is ephemeral and mint copies are rare, they remain a relatively inexpensive way to buy original prints by artists like Picasso and Matisse and are hugely fl exible to display, working in harmony with a broad range of other artworks, styles, and interior settings.

Magnum are an English rock band. They were formed in Birmingham by Tony Clarkin (guitar, songwriter) and Bob Catley (vocals) in order to appear as the resident band at the Rum Runner nightclub in the city. Magnum have undergone several changes in personnel over the years; however, the core of Catley and Clarkin remain. Magnum’s most signifi cant early success was Chase the Dragon in 1982, which reached number 17 in the UK Albums Chart. It included several songs that would become mainstays of the band’s live set, notably “Soldier of the Line”, “Sacred Hour” and “The Spirit”. On a Storyteller’s Night gave the band its breakthrough in Europe, and achieved a Gold certifi cation in the United Kingdom.[2] The band’s 1986 album Vigilante represented a move towards the mainstream due to production by Queen drummer Roger Taylor and David Richards. The band then achieved their commercial peak in 1988 when they entered the UK Top Ten for the fi rst time with the album Wings of Heaven, which reached number fi ve and featured three Top 40 singles, “Days of No Trust”, “Start Talking Love” and “It Must Have Been Love”. It was followed by Goodnight L.A., which was produced by Keith Olsen and reached number nine in the UK Album Chart in 1990. It produced another Top 40 single for the band, “Rockin’ Chair”.
