Broader portfolio
A wider range of generators is part of a growing equipment portfolio offered by Pramac-Generac UK. Alan Guthrie visited the company’s new offices.
Having completed its move to considerably larger premises in Stoke-on-Trent earlier this year, Pramac-Generac UK has geared up to serve customers in this country with a growing product portfolio.
Located on a new business park with excellent transport links, the new site gives 21,000ft2 9,000ft2
as well as demonstration facilities.
Moreover, the move to Stoke has enabled personnel from the former Pramac-Generac site in Crewe to relocate smoothly. Core staff from the former Towerlight lighting tower facility in Milton Keynes have also been retained as many were field-based and can work from home. Pramac-Generac UK’s MD, David Oates, believes the operation is now “stronger than we have ever been and even better placed to serve customers.”
Business expansion
The operation is a subsidiary of the Generac corporation, which is headquartered in Wisconsin. In recent years, the business has expanded and diversified in other countries and has made several acquisitions including Towerlight in 2013, generator manufacturer Pramac in 2016 and a German supplier, Motortech, which specialises in gas engine technology. The combined Pramac-Generac identity has been adopted for the UK operation to reflect the strength of the two brands.
The result is a broad product portfolio that includes power generation equipment capable of providing up to 3MW alongside other specialist equipment for a diverse customer base. This includes mobile generators and sets for temporary and permanent installation in domestic and industrial markets, including petrol, diesel, gas and hybrid models; lighting towers; bowser washers; pumps; on-site dust suppression equipment; and manual handling products including manually operated and powered pallet trucks and shelf stackers.

Popular models include the 50kVA and 60kVA GRW 50 and GRW 60, Stage IIIa compliant units which, like others in the range, are designed for low levels of emissions and noise, with rugged construction. Forklift slots and lifting eyes are incorporated for ease of movement and the machines are stackable for storage. David Oates says Pramac- Generac UK has invested significantly in stocks of Stage IIIa-compliant models to meet ongoing demand.
The company has developed variants to meet the new EU Stage V emissions regulations, as well as hybrid versions with straightforward control panels. A 350kVA Stage V set is currently being evaluated at a construction site in London and the manufacturer’s Stage V machines across the various power nodes are scheduled to become available from Q1 of 2020 onwards. David Oates says that interest in such machines is steadily rising and points out that the use of telemetry will also become more important to enable users to monitor the level of AdBlue in larger and other parameters for smooth operation.
GRW generators are designed to meet the needs of the hire industry.
The generator line-up also includes the P18000 machine developed for use in welfare units. This is now available as a CombHy hybrid variant, which has a Stage IIIa engine producing 13kW and with the battery running in tandem this increases to 20kW. The running time of the engine can be reduced in this way by up to 50%.
Telecoms hybrids
The P18000 generator is now available in a hybrid version.

The manufacturer also offers a number of hybrid power generation products specifically for the telecoms industry, including the GHW series offering outputs of 9.5kW, 14kW, 18kW or 22kW.
