CHISLETT LIGHTS UP

Morris Site Machinery has sold six SMC TL90 LED lighting towers to Spalding-based Chislett Hire. Director Mike Woodfield said, “We have been using machines in the SMC range for over ten years and they have always been reliable, robust and cost-effective.” All six of the new machines were

out on hire soon after delivery to customers across Lincolnshire and surrounding areas. The TL90 LED incorporates a large 130-litre capacity fuel tank and is claimed to give a running time of up to 133 hours with a noise level of at 60dB(A) at 7m. • Morris’ International

Business Director, Phil Winnington, recently completed a ‘5-a-Day’ fund-raising initiative to raise funds for the charity, Mind. Phil, pictured fourth from left, ran 25km in five days at different locations. To promote a healthy

lifestyle, each day he wore a

different T-shirt depicting fruit from an individual’s recommended five daily portions. The run saw him cover ground in Shrewsbury, Wolverhampton, Cheshire and North Wales, as well as 5km around the football pitch at Crewe Alexandra, in memory of a close friend. Phil quickly exceeded his initial £555.55 target, and has currently raised more than £1,000.

OnGrade success for ESS Safeforce

ESS Safeforce reports that it has successfully been offering the OnGrade SiteZone proximity warning system on site machinery for four years. Designed to reduce the risk of personnel and plant collisions, the RFID

(radio frequency identification) system uses vibration, audio and visual alerts to enhance safety within a designated zone. Receivers located inside the items of plant detect the location of tag-wearing workers and alert the driver and the pedestrian to avoid an accident. ESS Safeforce, which is part of Hire Station, also offers a wireless version

of the system, and has a dedicated team that installs the equipment and trains users in its operation.

Astley Hire’s top technician

Astley Hire’s latest employee, 20-year old technician Danny Martin, is no stranger to the Leigh-based business, having undertaken a two-week work experience placement there when aged 14. The company went on to offer him further work

opportunities during school holidays and weekends, and he was employed two days a week while studying for a motor sports engineering degree, which he recently completed. MD Stephen Dorricott said, “We always strive to help

young people with potential and, from the moment Danny started his work experience with us, it was clear he was a young man full of enthusiasm and committed to making the most of the opportunity.” Danny commented, “Having those two weeks of work

experience was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. The practical insight into the world of work really shored up my educational studies, as I could see useful techniques and theories put into practice.”

AJC’s Green success

AJC Trailers, which manufactures EasyCabin temporary accommodation and welfare units, is celebrating after winning a Green Apple Environment Award from The Green Organisation, an international, non-profit group that promotes environmental best practice worldwide. The company was competing against more than 500 other

nominations, and says that the Award reflects the efforts it has made this year to develop products that reduce carbon- based fuel usage, lower noise pollution, and conserve and re-use energy. AJC is also exploring the use of renewable energy with long-life batteries. The company will collect the trophy at a presentation ceremony to be held in the Houses of Parliament on 6 November.
