The Analysis Editor’s Letter

Facing the challenge of our times

Stephen Kiely Editor, CCRMagazine stephen@ccrmagazine.co.uk

Have their ever been such times? Probably not in living history for pretty much all of us. As I sit down to write this letter, the

coronavirus is already a global pandemic, Prime Minister Boris Johnson has been open about the potential consequences for the UK, offices around the country are emptying as people as needing to adopt ‘social distancing’, and shops are running low on some essentials as shoppers start to horde goods. There is a sense everywhere that panic is

either here or is just a couple of steps away So what is an editor to do? What is there to

be said that will not sound trite or contrived? Any medical advice is probably better coming from more expert sources and it is hard to fully approach the sheer scale of the social changes taking place at the moment. We have tried to consider things carefully

and have developed a four-step plan. Firstly, this edition includes several articles

on the mental aspects of what we are all going through at the moment. Social isolation is unusual and challenging for many people, so we all need advice on how to get through. Secondly, we will be running a series of

webinars – including one with Paladin Commercial on business-continuity planning – to broadcast the information you need straight into your home or office.

consider that it is very important that the industry should have something to look forward to, that we should continue to encourage and recognise true excellence in our industry, as we all seek to play our part in building a future for our society

In difficult times we Be Part of CCRMagazine’s Green Future!

CCR has taken the bold decision to step up for our environment by becoming an online-first publication. As the world struggles to cope with the consequences of climate change, we are saving the impact of printing and postage. You can still find all the most important news and analysis online at our outstanding web-publication.

March 2020 www.CCRMagazine.com 3 Thirdly, we will postpone CCRInteractive

until next year. Now is not the time to be holding large-scale event – even if the government allowed them – and it is entirely unknown whether the situation will be materially different in the Autumn. In this, we are very grateful for the

continued understanding and support of our sponsors, which leads on to point four. Fourthly, we will continue to run the

Credit Excellence Awards this year as planned, but without the ceremony. Arvato have now been announced as the overall sponsors of the Credit Excellence Awards, in association with Arvato Financial Solutions, which will be judged as usual and the win- ners announced direct. These decisions are never easy to make,

but in difficult times we consider that it is very important that the industry should have something to look forward to, that we should continue to encourage and recognise true excellence in our industry, as we all seek to play our part in building a future for our society.
