olley’s own enthusiasm and, indeed, success has not only helped inspire many others to take the plunge, but as director


of racing at the Solo Offshore Racing Club (SORC), he and the club have been able to offer encouragement and guidance that have helped to grow participation. In addition, his Jeanneau agency Sea Ventures has developed a strong reputation for not only supplying new yachts from this particular production builder, but also for being able to enlist its brokerage business to help advise on other brands and models that that are


suitable for shorthanded and solo racing. Yet, alongside this impressive growth in


shorthanded racing, those like Colley who are the heart of it have become increasingly aware of a developing gap in the market. ‘We’ve been promoting solo and shorthanded sailing since 2008 and while it took 10 years to really create momentum, recently there has been a rapid growth in this area,’ Colley says. ‘ The global pandemic accelerated this development as the need to be socially
