New Boats Table Clear intent Designer Umberto Felci aims for a fast, luxurious yacht… but that does not look too ‘soft’


Bandido is the second example of the Ice 70 design following the unveiling of Thalassa at the 2021 Cannes Boat Show. Two other examples are now under construction sharing the same naval archi- tecture but with everything else tailored to each owner’s wishes. Comparing this project with the previous Ice 52 and 60


designs – which we like to consider as good examples of our fast-cruiser concept, balancing both sets of priorities without spoiling the sailing experience – for a larger yacht we have leant a little more towards long-distance cruising. A lifting keel with a draft range of 1.7m-4.5m, a high-aspect


carbon rudder and infused carbon sandwich construction throughout, as well as a high-spec carbon spar package by Axxon, all combine to ensure a yacht that delivers above- average performance for a boat with this level of comfort. Bandido’s interior is fully customised for very experienced


owners who also spent long periods working alongside our interior design team to ensure they got precisely the boat they wanted. Our in-house software, that allows clients to ‘live’ virtually inside a new yacht, was also extremely valuable in this part of the process. The finished Bandido interior is dominated by very light


colours including multiple shades of white that make for a bright and elegant environment. At the same time, however bright and contemporary the feel of this interior, there is never any doubt that extreme luxury is the overriding criterion. The deck layout was driven by the desire for maximum simplicity when sailing what is a large and powerful yacht. It was decided early on to keep the guest cockpit completely

Halyards terminate at the mast base with two dedicated winches, but otherwise manoeuvres are managed in a tradi- tional way with two aft winches dedicated to the mainsail sheet and two more dedicated to the overlapping genoa, code zero or gennaker. There is also a high-aspect self-tacking jib which we believe will be the default choice for cruising. Finally a generous opening transom creates a large and comfortable terrace on the sea along with access to the tender garage. This new project has an obvious aesthetic connection with previous Felci designs for this Italian yard. Relatively straight but ‘taut’ curves to deliver the classic but timeless impression of a very modern yacht, while the squared-off coachroof and dynamic feel of the deck and sheer combine to deliver a clear sense of purposefulness.
